The most common way to connect a printer to your PC is by USB cable, which makes it a local printer. You can also install a wireless printer or add a printer connected to another computer on your network. We'll cover these scenarios below.

Add a Local Printer 1. Connect the printer to your computer using the USB cable and turn it on. Open the Settings app from the Start menu. Click Devices. Click Add a printer or scanner. If Windows detects your printer, click on the name of the printer and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation. And you're done.

If Windows doesn't find your connected printer, click on 'The printer that I want isn't listed' link. Then let the Windows troubleshooting guide help you find your printer. It will search for available printers and help you download the drivers for them. If that doesn't work, head to your printer manufacturer's website and download the drivers and installation tools for your printer. Add a Wireless Printer The steps to install a wireless printer may vary by manufacturer.

In general, however, modern printers today will detect your network and automate the installation. Use the printer's LCD panel to enter the wireless setup. On my Epson printer this is under Setup Wireless LAN Settings. Select your Wi-Fi network. You'll need to know your home network's SSID, which you can find by hovering your mouse over the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar. Enter your network password. In some cases, you might need to temporarily connect your printer to your computer via USB to install software.

But otherwise, that's it. You should find your printer automatically added in the Printers & scanners section under Settings Devices. If you run into trouble, make sure your printer is relatively close to your computer and not too far from your wireless router.

If your printer has an Ethernet jack, you could also connect it directly to your router and manage it with a browser interface. Add a Shared Printer Windows' home networking feature called HomeGroup automatically shares printers and certain files with other computers on your home network. Here we'll set up a HomeGroup, if you don't already have one set up, and connect to the shared printer. Set Up a HomeGroup Skip this step if your home network already has a HomeGroup set up. If you're not sure, follow steps 1 and 2 below to check.

Right-click on the wireless icon in the taskbar and select 'Open Network and Sharing Center'. Click 'Ready to create' next to HomeGroup. If a HomeGroup already exists on your network, it will say 'Joined.' Click the Create a homegroup button.

Select what you want to be shared. Printers & Devices are shared by default. Write down the HomeGroup password Windows creates for you.

You'll need it for each computer you want to join the HomeGroup. Click Finish. Connect to a Shared Printer on the HomeGroup Now head to the other computer(s) on your network to join the HomeGroup. Click Homegroup and then the Join now button in Windows Explorer. Verify what you want to share and click Next. Enter the password and click Next. Click Finish.

Click Network in Windows Explorer and you should see the shared printer installed. Ben-Ztec Says: Applicable for Windows 10 or 8 and 8.1 Printer OFFLINE or NOT PRINTING or NOT CONNECTING Via WiFi etc.SOLVED Again, this is Applicable for Windows 10 or 8 and 8.1. First of all I have to start by saying Windows 8.1, and parts of Windows 10 “functionability”, is the MOST “stupidest” thing that Microsoft has ever done to us Humans! What a slow, sluggish, annoying piece of, whatever.Anyway, I’m here to tell you folks how I finally SOLVED Printer connection issues with My 3 different Computers (3 different Windows 8, 8.1 and 10). But Before I get started, I have to tell you folks, I spend countless hours and days trying to Install, uninstall, re-install and connect all my windows computers to my Printer to NO avail. I mean, I tried EVERYTING, even calling the Microsoft and the Printer company, Epson, They just couldn’t help me. In some instances, It even appeared to be more knowledgeable to solving my own problems that these so called technical support customer-no-service people.

Anyway, sorry for my long stupid story, I was just pissed off. This is HOW I solved the printer drama problems: First of all, as long as you keep connection or trying to connect your Printer and Windows Computers via WiFi or Wireless as expected, you will NEVER solve this problem. Just forget about the Printer WiFi/Wireless connection thing for now. Get a Ethernet Cable and connect your Printer to your Internet Modem/Router DIRECT, meaning, one end of the Ethernet cable connecting to your Printer, and the other end of the Ethernet cable connecting to the Internet Router, direct connection. After this connection, wait for at least 2 minutes for your router and printer to communicate/connect,after 2 minutes or so, if your printer was indicating “offline” It will change from “grayed-out” or offline to Online. If NOT so, go to devices and Printer on your PC, remove your Printer, and NOW try to add a Printer. When doing this, make sure your PRINTER SOFTWARE is already installed in your Computer BUT if it’s NOT already installed, just go ahead and install it.

Your Computer will connect to your Printer flawlessly without any issues, because by this type of “DIRECT PRINTER-ROUTER CONNECTION” you just FORCED your Windows PC to recognize your Printer as part of the “Home Internet Router-Network accessory”. Also, If you don’t have a Ethernet port available at the back of your Internet Modem/Router, I advise you do what I did.

For

I bought this “5-Port Fast Ethernet Desktop Switch” on Amazon (HERE: ). Connect this device direct to your Internet Router, this will enable you to have Ethernet PORTS available for direct connections between your Internet router and any other devices. It’s ONLY 9 bucks and trust me, it’s the BEST in the market, and you will NOT just need it for this Printer problems, but for your network connection issues in the future. It gives you the ability to connect multiple devices to your internet direct instead of WiFi or wireless connections. If you don’t want to buy it on Amazon, go to your local electronic store and buy a similar device that can serve the same purpose.

If you have any question, Please ASK me and I will specifically help you, I know how annoying this problem is tom many people because I’ve been a victim. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you guys think, Happy Printing! And shame on Microsoft for creating this mess, they are the real “baskets-of-deplorables”.
